What Are You Reading? – He is Faithful
Meaghan Saxon · July 24, 2023
well hi ladies happy monday morning i hope that you're having a great start to your week and um i have a slight confession this morning i was struggling to think of something that um god has been teaching me and um sometimes you know you're just on certain days and somebody asks you you know like you know what's going on or what's god teaching and you really have to sit think about it. And then a verse popped up on my phone, that daily verse, and it was a very familiar one and one that you probably know as well. And so in John 1, 1, it says, in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. And so, you know, while I was busy trying to think of something to talk about, to, you know, not so much teach, but just discuss with you of what I am reading, it then hit me that sometimes, you know, we need to go back to the beginning. So, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And so, sometimes, you know, we just need to remember the basics. It's like the ABCs, right? A little more complicated than that, but sometimes we just need to remember the basics and go back to that. And so I think there was something, and I know some people, there's mixed reviews on The Chosen TV show. For me personally, I think it helps sometimes to envision the disciples as they are as human. It helps me to really dig deeper in that way you know use it as a tool to dig deeper into god's word you know watch it and then go even deeper and my husband and i will have conversations about it but i do remember and again these are scenes that that writers have made you know to help you to to understand scripture but more than anything to point you to scripture to go and read it for yourself right to go and read god's word and to understand it but there was a scene and um they had john the disciple with jesus talking about the beginning of creation and Jesus as the character played in there you know he says that is a favorite memory and for me it it reminded me of God's all-encompassing power it was kind of like a little tool from that show that reminded me that yes Jesus was there at the beginning and it's a memory for him and he remembers the beginning of creation you know we look in Genesis And it says the Holy Spirit was hovering over the waters. The Spirit was hovering over the deep. And just that anticipation, you know, and the memory of creation. And so it reminded me of how faithful our God is. He's there in the beginning and he's here present now. And so we were talking in our Bible study, he's faithful, which means he's full of faith. and so we can then place our faith in him and so I just wanted you to take time this morning this is going to be probably a little bit of a shorter video today to just really think about God in the beginning I know we can't know I mean so much of it is a mystery but Jesus was there in the beginning and this whole story has been to redeem us to bring us back into relationship with him and through Jesus on the cross and it was there from the beginning God God had this plan of redemption and to bring us back into right relationship with him and so I just think that sometimes we get so caught up in you know what's happening in my life or you know somebody else's life and the things that I'm praying for and maybe you're like me and you have some of those struggles and you can name them name them all off really quick and yet we need to go back to the basics sometimes to remember that if god is faithful in these big things he's faithful in saving and redeeming me therefore he's going to be faithful in these other things and so i just want you to turn if you have your bible out and i'm going to read from hebrews 10 and i highly encourage right after that to go and read what's considered the hall of faith, Hebrews 11, but I'm going to read Hebrews 10 verses 19 through 23. Again, if you're, um, if you've been a Christian for a long time, you probably know, or I wouldn't even say Christian, I'd say a follower of Jesus. You probably know that these are, you know, these are really, um, popular, um, verses. So, um, you know, ones that you've heard before, but I just want you to maybe take, take a moment if you're not driving, close your eyes and just listen to this. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the most holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened up, opened for us through the curtain that is his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for he who promised is faithful and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds and so just remember that that he God who promised is faithful go listen to blessed assurance you know Jesus is mine simple as that just blessed assurance Jesus is mine and so in those moments of maybe doubt or maybe you're in a great place of life you could be an awesome place and you still remember that Jesus is mine there's blessed assurance you have that faith and a mantra that I've been saying lately is I have faith because he is faithful just over and over again and so remember he was faithful from the beginning and he's faithful now so just cling to that remembering that he is faithful he's full of faith and so that's where i am today and so if you would just pray with me heavenly father lord we just thank you that from the beginning you have been faithful you are still faithful and god i just ask for anyone listening to my voice lord that you would enter in to situations and maybe those would just be set aside for the moment to just simply remember how faithful you are the all of the promises that are all through your word that you have fulfilled and they will the ones that are not fulfilled yet lord you will fulfill and father we just thank you that we know that you are a god who is faithful lord would you just overwhelm us with that today and lord i just thank you that you allow us to glorify you lord that you brought us back into your family through the blood of Jesus. And so, Lord, today we look for ways to glorify you and to remember your faithfulness. Lord, it's in your son Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen. Thank you so much and I hope that you have a wonderful Monday.
