What Are You Reading? – Planted Tree

well hey ladies good morning megan and jacqueline here and uh yeah i know you haven't done this in a while i've got some company this morning which is great and so happy monday morning and we're just going to kind of jump straight on into it with sort of a neat little concept that i stumbled on and we were just discussing and talking about um and this is coming from a study that i'm hoping to teach in the fall um it's called the gospel on the ground with acts but she's she really does this christie mclellan really dives deep into hebrew and the culture that this the bible is in which i just find fascinating because it makes it so much deeper and richer um and this word mitzvah i never really knew what that meant i mean i knew knew about bar mitzvah and that mitzvah and what it was and so um she says here the hebrew word for commandment is mitzvah mitzvah comes from the Hebrew root, I'm going to butcher it, but zvada, which carries the idea of attachment. So keeping the Lord's laws or instructions helps us live on God's path and attaches us to the living God. And so she said, that's your way to peace is this attachment. So, but the neat part is, is the bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah, what does that actually mean? And bar means son of, so son of the commandment and bat, daughter of the commandment. And I just thought that was so neat to be a daughter of the commandments you know and god's word says this about his law or the commandments this is psalm 19 7 it says the law of the lord is perfect reviving the soul so when we are attaching ourself to god's word and his commandments his laws um it is reviving to our souls but then also psalm 1 says um blessed is the one who does not walk in the walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way of the sinners or sit in the company of mockers but his delight is in the law of the lord and on that law he meditates day and night it goes on to say he's like a tree that's planted by streams of water yielding its fruit and season so there's this lush flourishing that's happening so basically what it's saying is his delight um when we delight in the law of the Lord, we prosper. And I don't mean financially, I mean, we flourish spiritually, we are revived. And it ties in with that Psalm 19, 7 as well. And so I really love that idea of attachment because when we cling to the Lord, when we are like Velcro, it's like Velcro, it's exactly like the tree planted by water. You are, the roots are attaching themselves to this everlasting source that's right and what's neat is she had um further down in psalm 19 she had you go and if you want a little study for today you can go and read verses um 7 through 14 and she a little activity just said list every benefit that comes to us when we allow the word of god to attach us to the living god and um i just wrote down and these are just quick words from those phrases the the lord um it's perfect refreshing trustworthy full of wisdom it's right joyful radiant enlightening pure enduring firm and righteous and those are all such good things and that all comes from the law of the lord and you know because we tend to think of law as being something we can't or not not that we can't we tend to think of it as i want that and i can't have it like a set of rules restrictions but really it's instructions on how to get closer to god how to be the torah him yes which was the first five books of the bible was was there um israelite's law there the way they could get to know god and know what how they could be right yes before god and so they did literally attach themselves to yes the word of god and so what a beautiful word picture for us and how we need to be attaching ourselves to it by memorizing the word by meditating on God's word by just reading it praying it living it living it and then we are revived we are satisfied we are strong we are encouraged we are rejoicing we you know on and on on and on and on yep so that's a great word for this morning yep we hope you guys have a great week.
