What Are You Reading? Psalm of Lament

well hello and good morning and i hope that you're having a good start to your monday morning um probably you're in the same boat that i am that your eyes have been fixed to the news and while i'm recording this on a thursday who knows what will have happened by monday but i know that god is still faithful and god is still good and this morning i just want to read some words from a psalm. And so like I shared last week, I am in the process of doing kind of an odd way of reading the Bible in a bunch of different places. And just as it just so happened so many times, an applicable scripture was applied today. And it's from Psalm 44, which is basically a psalm of lament and of remembrance and asking god to move and so i just want you to listen to this especially in light of um what all is happening right now and in israel and as well as what has happened in god's faithfulness throughout the years and so psalm 44 verses 1 through 8 says we have heard it with our ears o god our ancestors have told us what you did in their days in days long ago with your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish it was not by their sword that they won the land nor did they did their arm bring them victory it was your right hand your arm and the light of your face for you loved them you are my king and my god who decrees victories for jacob through you we push back our enemies through your name we trample our foes i put no trust in my bow my sword does not bring me victory but you give us victory over our enemies you put our adversaries to shame and god we make our boast all day long and we will praise your name forever and so i just thought that that was a very interesting um lament and remembrance in light of everything that is going on and this song goes on to say that they that the people of israel have been humbled they have that they are approached to their neighbors and so in some way it's easy for us to say this on this side and from america where we are safe it is easy to say all of these things while people are experiencing the atrocities of pure hatred and evil but to also know that god has been faithful in the past to the people of israel and they are his chosen people and so i again want to turn turn your attention to the end of psalm 44 and it says in verse 23 the end of this it says awake lord why do you sleep rouse yourself do not reject us forever why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression we are brought down to the dust our bodies cling to the ground rise up and help us rescue us because of your unfailing love and the end of that psalm is what is so pivotal the unfailing love we know god is faithful we know he loves his people and we know that his name will be proclaimed throughout the earth and so i just want you to take time to really um think about and you probably have been praying for and lamenting for the people of israel as they are going through such atrocities but to remember and as the beginning of this said we have heard it with our ears of god our ancestors told us what you did in their days and days long ago this book this this wonderful book this word of god tells us how faithful god is from beginning to end the alpha and omega and he will not be put to shame and we firmly believe this unfailing love he will show his unfailing love to his people. And so I hope that that encourages you in some way. I hope it reminds you to pray for the people of Israel and just God's chosen people. And I just hope that it reminds you that God is still working and moving when it seems like things are going to complete chaos. And obviously when we look at the end of scripture, there are a lot of things that are falling into place and so we will see what that means but just know that God is faithful and his unfailing love is how we have hope. So I hope that encourages you some today and go and read all of Psalm 44 and just be reminded that God is a God who is faithful and he is a God who is just and so spend time in prayer and pray for the people of Israel today.
